The University of the Incarnate Word Athletics programs get set for more action as track and field wraps up the Southland Conference Championships on Monday, March 1 to begin the week. Men's and women's soccer, fencing and women's tennis are also all in action for the week of March 1-7.

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word Athletics programs get set for more action as track and field wraps up the Southland Conference Championships on Monday, March 1 to begin the week. Men's and women's soccer, fencing and women's tennis are also all in action for the week of March 1-7.

TRACK & FIELD  

  • UIW finishes out the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham on Monday afternoon (Championship Central).   
  • On day one of the meet, Alisa Novosad earned bronze in the pole vault event clearing a height of 3.61 meters.  

FENCING (3/6-3/7) 

  • Fencing teams opens their season at the Western Conference duals hosted by Air Force this weekend 3/6-3/7 
  • Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the event. 
  • Friday marks the teams' only tournament before the NCAA championships at Penn State on March 23-29th.  

MEN'S SOCCER (3/6) 

  • UIW hits the road for the first time this season to take on CBU in Riverside, Ca., on Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m. CT (Watch|LiveStats) 
  • The Cardinals (1-1-0) look to bounce back after a 2-1 loss at home to Dixie State. 
  • Wilmar Aguilar scored his first career goal for the Cardinals. 
  • CBU is 2-0-2 this season, coming off a 2-1 win over Houston Baptist on Sunday. 
 WOMEN'S SOCCER (3/5 & 3/7) 
  • UIW is slated to play two home conference games, Friday night at 5 p.m. against McNeese and Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Lamar. (Watch|LiveStats
  • The Cardinals are 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Southland Conference heading into the weekend.  
  • Currently, McNeese is fifth in the SLC standings while Lamar is fourth. The Cardinals sit in sixth following a conference loss to Stephen F. Austin. 
 WOMEN'S TENNIS (3/5 & 3/7) 
  • The Cardinals return to the Mabry Tennis Center for two Southland Conference matches against Sam Houston and SFA. 
  • UIW is looking to pick up its first win of the season and its first wins against SHSU and SFA on Friday, March 5, at 1 p.m. and Sunday, March 7, at 11 a.m., respectively. 
  • Brandelyn Fulgenzi is currently second in SLC standings with a 4-0 record at No. 1 singles.
