SAN ANTONIO – Richard Kuykendoll of the University of the Incarnate Word track and field team was named Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, announced the league on Wednesday afternoon.

Kuykendoll received the honors following a record-breaking performance at the Bobcat Classic over the weekend winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.37 seconds, beating the previous program record by two seconds. The new record time places him fourth in the conference and 22nd in the region this season.

The second-year also had a strong showing with a first-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay alongside teammates DeVante Mount, Jordan Chopane and Quadyr Tindal, adding a fourth-place finish in the 200M dash with a time of 21.17 seconds.

In two years at UIW, he has now set the program record in both the indoor and the outdoor 400-meter events. He will compete in his first SLC outdoor conference championships, when the team travels to Humble, Texas on May 15.
