THE LAST TIME THEY MET

Northwestern State (0-3)

The last time the Cardinals faced the Demons, it was a battle that went to the end. The three-match set saw no wins by more than five points. In the last two sets, the margin was only by three as Northwestern State came out the victor in the end.

In the first set, the Cardinals were down 17-23. Jacqueline Arrington answered the call to slam a ball and start a run for UIW. In back-to-back points, Arrington sealed a block to help the Cardinals come within four. Northwestern State held onto the lead and won 25-20.

The next two sets came down to the wire as both ended with the score of 22-25 in favor of the Demons.

Risa Sena led the charge for UIW with 13 kills. Kyla Malone accounted for 12 and Annamarie Alvarez for seven. The Cardinals tallied 37 kills in total, a differential of two between them and Northwestern State. Thomas Kade had three blocks, Arrington had two, and Taylor Stoops had one.

UIW needs to watch out for the attackers of Northwestern State. Breanna Burrell had 12 kills last time, while Jordan Gamble contributed nine. Symone Wesley was also a big player for the Demons with seven kills, an ace, two blocks, and 14 digs.

Southeastern Louisiana (3-1)

It's been about a month since these two foes met at the McDermott Center in San Antonio. In another tight match, the Cardinals came out with a victory over the Lions.

UIW started off hot while taking a big lead, 11-2, for the first points of the match. That lead helped them stretch all the way to the win as a huge block by Alvarez and Thomas secured the final point for the 25-15 set win.

In the second, UIW fell on the other end of the lead. Though, as it got to 11-15 Thomas came in for the kill to build some Cardinal momentum. After taking it into extra points, UIW lost 24-26.

The last two were just as close as the second set. It was a game of runs between the two teams that brought the ending to a thrill. At the end of the third UIW came back to score six consecutive points to win 25-22. In the fourth, the Cardinals held the lead to win 25-20.

In the performance, Alvarez led all teams with 17 kills and four blocks. Arrington was right behind her with 16 kills and an impressive seven blocks. Stoops had a season-high 55 assists.

The Cardinals will have to look out for Kailin Newsome (13 kills) and Cicily Hidalgo (13). On the defensive end, Gracie Duplechein had 24 digs.
